Burgundy and Hong Kong: a perfect pairing for export

At Les Sources de Vougeot, the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) hosted a meeting and roundtable between Ms Shirley Yung, Special Representative for Hong Kong Economic and Trade Affairs to the European Union, MOSAIK and a delegation of Burgundy wine producers.

The discussions focused on opportunities for collaboration between France and Hong Kong. The Hong Kong market indeed offers French wines several advantages:

  • France accounts for around 70% of Hong Kong’s wine imports, or EUR 552 million in 2025;
  • Hong Kong is a free port, with no customs duties;
  • wine has been exempt from excise duty there since 2008.

Hong Kong can therefore be a market in its own right, and also a platform for trading and re-export across Asia.

So now is the perfect time to put Hong Kong on the wine list.
