The new agreement with Europe is no longer just about avocados. It is also about critical minerals, data centres, energy and strategic supply chains.
Mexico and the European Union have signed the modernisation of their global trade agreement. An agreement had been in place since 2000, but this update shifts the focus of the relationship.
What this new phase involves:
- tariff reductions covering more than 90% of bilateral trade;
- stronger support for strategic sectors: critical minerals, pharmaceuticals and medical devices;
- increased cooperation in digital services, e-commerce and technological infrastructure;
- projects linked to energy and data centres, driven by the growing energy demands of artificial intelligence.
Who should be paying attention:
- European companies exploring entry into or expansion within Mexico;
- Mexican companies seeking to integrate into European supply chains;
- regulated sectors: energy, mining, pharmaceuticals, technology and digital infrastructure;
- businesses likely to face new compliance, traceability and cross-border operating standards.
The Mexico-Europe relationship has entered a different stage. MOSAIK continues to support cross-border operations by combining strategy, regulation and business insight.
